In early October 2020, the 17th Biennial Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge (17BSMAR), a collaborative effort between the Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS) and the Groundwater Resources Association (GRA) of California, was held virtually and focused on resilience through recharge and recovery. Four of our technical staff gave presentations, one also moderated a session, and we co-sponsored the event. We are glad BSMAR17 was  rescheduled instead of cancelled, and we look forward to BSMAR18, to be held in conjunction with the 11th International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge in Long Beach, California.

Marvin Glotfelty, RG, who also authored The Art of Water Wells (NGWA Press, 2019) presented on City of Phoenix ASR Well Program Update Part 1.

Doug Bartlett, RG, and Paul Plato, RG, co-presented on ASR Operations Management by Electronically “Tagging” Recharged Water. Mr. Bartlett also moderated the Managed Aquifer Recharge and Water Resources Management session.

Don Hanson, RG, presented on Improved Site Characterization Tools for Better Basin Design.

Technical expert Amy Ewing, PG, from Daniel B. Stephens & Associates (DBS&A), our New Mexico counterpart and also a wholly owned subsidiary of Geo-Logic Associates, presented on “Managed Aquifer Recharge and Water Supply Resilience in Albuquerque,” work done in collaboration with DBS&A’s Christopher Wolf, PG, and with Katherine Yuhas of Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority. Their work was also on the front page of “Fountainhead,” a Texas Ground Water Association publication (3rd Quarter, 2020).
